OBJECT: 2006.0022 – Alb
DESCRIPTION: Alb, cotton. White cotton body with Limerick lace fringe around bottom of body. At the neck are two tapes of silk (?) to fasten the wide plunging V front. On the inside, just above the lace is an embroidered label, blue on white, Little Company of Mary.
DATE: 1925 – 1975
PATTERN: Fringe has wide but fairly open bottom border with foliate design. Rising above the border are alternating sacred hearts and IHS; above this again are two rows of foliage and grapes.
STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Heavy darn. Birds eye. Whip. Diamond run. A big selection of filling stitches. Double thread is used in some of the filling stitches.
FIBRE: Lawn Cotton with silk net Limerick Lace.
SIZE: 262 cm x 75 cm.
COMMENTS: Very beautiful pattern. Lace is in very good condition.
GIFT OF: Little Company of Mary. (?).
