Talk title: The Hands Behind the Stitches by Sharon Slater

Talk Summary: The talk will be delving into histories of women and girls who created Limerick Lace in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Picking apart the lives of some of those who worked by candlelight by whitewashed walls. The stitches of their lives rarely dropping into official record and whose names have not been woven into the larger lace story. 

Speaker’s bio: Sharon Slater is an award-winning historian and author whose focus is on the history of Limerick. She holds an MA in Local History from the University of Limerick. Her publications include “A Stitch in Time, a History of Limerick Clothing Factory” and “100 Women of Limerick”. She is the creator and researcher behind the very successful Limerick’s Life website.
