    OBJECT: 1986.0068 – Stole Ecru
    DESRIPTION: Tambour lace stole with machine applied areas.
    PATTERN: Basket of roses. The roses have raised petals – other flowers. Each corner has leaf and flower pattern with raised petals.
    STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Spotted net appliqué in the corners; also, in the basket and wreath motif. Also, some bows. Scalloped edge. With side varying at the corner. Edge trimmed with large dots. Outer edge trimmed with picots. Dot grouping throughout.
    FIBRE: Diamond net.
    SIZE: 165 cm x 286 cm.
    CIRCA: 1925 – 1950.
    COMMENTS: Virtually no damage. One or two tiny holes. A few brown stains.
    GIFT OF: Not known.

    DESRIPTION: Limerick tambour altar fall.
    PATTERN: Centre: Heart topped by cross in oval casket. Four IHS symbols. Floral and leaf pattern. At end diamonds filled with needlerun stitches.
    STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Tambour.
    FIBRE: Cotton diamond net worked with diamond thread.
    SIZE: Depth: 39cm. Length: (Tape) 242cm. Lace 386cm
    CIRCA: 1930 – 1950
    COMMENTS: Small number of holes, mostly near top of lace.

    DESCRIPTION: Limerick lace altar fall.
    PATTERN: IHS in middle. Chalice on both sides. Large leaves and flowers. Doves. 1908 and 1930. Some crosses.
    STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Tambour and filling stitches
    FIBRE: Hexagonal cotton.
    SIZE: Depth 29cm x Width 265cm.
    CIRCA: 1930.
    COMMENTS: Very little damage; one tiny flower unravelling.

    OBJECT: 1989.0117 – Overskirt (black)
    DESCRIPTION: Black thread on black net overskirt. Tambour.
    PATTERN: Tambour leaves & flowers. Scalloped edge with excess and not cut as it was turned back and worked with tambour pattern.
    STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Tambour, no filling stitches. Machine made ?? Some repair work.
    FIBRE: Cotton thread on cotton net. Possibly made by machine..
    SIZE: 97 cm x 101 cm. Finished measurement, then the ruffle 172 cm
    DATE: 1880 – 1915.
    COMMENTS: Several holes in the net. The outer part is asymmetrical to the front. Unusual.
    GIFT OF: Not known.

    OBJECT: 1989.0176 – Mary O’Neil Lace.
    DESRIPTION: Sample of tape lace made by Mary O’Neill, Limerick School of Art and Design. 1904 – 1947. It is made of one piece of raw silk with inserts of lace (contrary to LM catalogue description). Lace border at end. It was shortened for unknown purposes. Tape is sewn onto the two sides and top of silk with glue still on the tape.

    FIBRE: Raw silk with tape lace edging. SIZE: 82cm x 60cm.
    DATE: 1904 – 1947
    COMMENTS: We recommend that the tape be removed.
    GIFT OF: Not known.

    PATTERN: Diamond net – ecru colour – Tambour work – Leaf – Flowers and lots of dots. STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Tambour – with lots of caskets filled with dots and no filling stitches.
    FIBRE: Cotton on cotton
    SIZE: 52cm x 254 cm.
    DATE: 1875 – 1900.
    COMMENTS: Slightly marked – small repair – a few rust marks.

    OBJECT: 1979.0018 – Limerick lace stole.
    DESCRIPTION: Stole with pattern at top and bottom.
    PATTERN: Hexagon net, Scalloped edge. Three rows of tambour stitch along outline of stole. Outline of flowers done in Tambour. Pattern at both ends. Heavy darn and few filling stitches.
    STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Heavy darn, Filling stitches, Scalloped edging. Limerick Lace.
    FIBRE: Cotton thread used on cotton hexagon net.
    SIZE: Depth 280cm x Width 54cm.
    DATE: 1878.
    COMMENTS: Quite a bit of damage. It looks like moth eaten because the tears seem to be aligned. Repair attempts.

    OBJECT: 2005.0072 – Stole.
    DESCRIPTION: Limerick lace. Blonde work. Designed and made by Eileen O’Donohue of the Limerick Lace School.
    PATTERN: Eastern style pattern with diamond zigzag border followed by flower and leaf border at the two ends. The centre has a scattering of single flowers with leaves. Crochet edges and fringed at both ends.
    STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES: Limerick Lace & crocheted fringe.
    FIBRE: Raw Silk threads, possibly silk net. SIZE: Height 284 cm cm x Width 58 cm.
    DATE: 1900 – 1915.
    COMMENTS: Soiled – two or three patches, not rust.
